This mandella depicts a mother bear, standing at the entrance of her den, protecting her young. When the Bear Mandella was hung in the tepee, it was believed that the warrior received the bear's attributes in battle. The medicine bundle placed in the center of the mandella contains herbs, seeds and hair and gave added medicine to the warrior. Approximately 15 x 36 inches, this hand-painted on leather mandella is laced to a frame wrapped with red trade cloth. Adorned with trade cloth drops, glass and metal beads, simulated bear claw, bear hide and wild turkey feathers.
