Rotten Belly Society Mandella
In the Plains Indian societies there were contrary people who, because of a sacred vision associated with the Thunder Beings, had to assume the role of doing things contrary to the normal way life should be conducted. They were viewed as teachers as they clearly taught the youth of the tribe what "not to do". This mandella honors these people. Approximate size is 15 x 36 inches. This hand-painted on leather mandella is laced to a frame wrapped with red trade cloth and is adorned with trade cloth drops, glass and metal beads, bells, bits of bone, a tiny turquoise necklace and various feathers. Truly a unique piece.
