Sioux Gourd Rattle
Believed to be of Comanche origin, the Peyote rite began to spread widely among the other Plains tribes. It became known as the Native American Church. The Gourd Rattle is one of the many paraphernalia used in this night-long rite. Once the Peyote was distributed, the celebrants took turns singing to a throbbing drum and the rattle of a pebble-filled gourd. These implements were passed hand-to-hand, along with a feathered fan that represented the birds linking God with man. Approximate size is 24 to 28 inches in length.....All Gourd Rattles are custom made and signed by ThreeFeathers.
